Grade & Alignment Charts |
Denver & Rio Grande Western grade & alignment charts detailed the railroad's right of way in intricate detail. These charts are drawn to a scale of 2 inches = 1 mile. They typically list the following characteristics of the right-of-way:
Trackage
curvature & gradient
Track schematic, sidings, spurs, tunnels
Detectors, signals, slide fencing, rail lubricators, wheel checkers
Rail weight & year
Right-of-way width
Each set of charts usually included a legend as one of the first few pages. The legend page listed the symbols used to denote the above right-of-way characteristics. I've included scans of the legend and the cover page in each set of Grade & Alignment Charts, if they are present.
